John Pawson CBE is a British designer whose work spans architecture, interiors and objects. After several years in Japan, including a period in Tokyo, where he visited the studio of Shiro Kuramata, he established his own practice in London in 1981. His work is characterised by rigorous simplicity and a precise exploration of proportion, material, light and space. Over more than four decades, his work has encompassed private homes, sacred spaces, museums, retail interiors and product design, including the Design Museum in London and the Cistercian monastery of Nový Dvůr in the Czech Republic.
